Hello CASL members!
My name is Amanda Roy; I am the Program Officer for the Connecticut Center for the Book, which is housed here at Connecticut Humanities. I have an opportunity for library media specialists, librarians, teachers and others who work with children (those ages 9-12 in particular). The Connecticut Center for the Book has announced a new project, The Great Connecticut Caper, a mystery story for young people. This will be a fun, Connecticut based story filled with activities, resources and contest opportunities!
The plot: Gillette Castle has vanished and the Connecticut Center for the Book needs the help of the children of Connecticut to restore our cultural treasure!
Twelve Connecticut authors have begun writing this serialized mystery story for 9-12 year olds (but open to children of all ages!). The Great Connecticut Caper will be filled with cliffhangers, twists, turns, fantastic characters and a big dose of Connecticut culture. Publication of this online, interactive story begins in January 2015, but some of the clues are already emerging.
Right now, individuals and organizations can register to be among the first to begin unraveling the mystery of The Great Connecticut Caper by signing up to receive electronic updates as well as notifications when each new chapter publishes. Each chapter will also include a curriculum guide that can be used by teachers, librarians and even families. Contests will be featured with every chapter as well. Contest prizes include free workshops for schools and libraries with the authors and illustrators who are creating The Great Connecticut Caper.
The Connecticut Center for the Book will partner with organizations in multiple areas of the state to host a launch events for The Great Connecticut Caper this January. The launch events will feature authors and illustrators involved with The Caper and we welcome librarians, teachers, parents and others who work with children around Connecticut to join us. Details about specific events are forthcoming.
Attached please find an educational resources info sheet with more details about The Great Connecticut Caper and a press release with details about this project.
