[CASL-L] SLO question

I used my book club for my SLO this year. I apply for the grant(s) that allow me to buy 25 (this year up to 35!) copies of the books (all Nutmeg nominees!!!), complete all the paperwork involved in the grant, recruit members, read the books myself (of course), compile a list of questions and also interesting links to show the groups (Libba Bray's very cool website for The Diviners, a clip from the Sun Ra film mentioned in Boy21, etc.). We meet 4-5 times a year during the kids' lunch periods because so many of our students rely on buses and can't meet before or after school. The library provides lunch. I facilitate the discussions. In between meetings I keep in touch with the kids in the club individually. My supervisor's response. "Oh, that SLO was too easy. Do something harder next time."

I am part
of a team of 5 teachers that run a class called Senior
Experience. The students do a senior project of their
choosing. We have used that class to do our SLO for two
years. This year we added a research component where with
the final reflection the class must also include an
annotated bibliography. I am thankful for this class bc I
don't know what I would do for a SLO!

Good morning,
I just met with my evaluator for my year-end meeting
regarding my SLO. She asked that I send an email to the
listserv to see if any high school librarians came up with a
cool way to approach our SLOs. I know that SLOs are
somewhat easier at the elementary
and middle school level where you get to teach a
"library" class and see the same group of students
throughout the year. At our high school, I am the only
certified librarian and so getting out into the classroom is
tough. I am sure that many of you are
in the same boat. I have been creating my SLO around use
of library resources for freshman history research papers.
However, this is not really a year-long activity and only
requires me to be in the classroom a handful of times.
There is no way, given library
coverage issues, that I can really get out to any one class
on a regular basis. Additionally, teachers are so strapped
to finish their curriculum, that adding me in to their class
numerous times would also make it tough on them. My
evaluator was hoping that
I could do something related to school-wide literacy, but
without a specific group of students to track, we are unsure
of how to approach this. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
Have a great day!
