[CASL-L] EBSCO Explora Full Text and Lexile Level Issues

Everyone, and especially school media specialists:

Three EBSCO Issues:

1. EBSCO Explora search results in iCONN are not defaulting to full text as they are supposed to, and as they  do in all other iCONN EBSCO resources. EBSCO is aware of this issue, has marked it high priority, and is pursuing a fix at this time. Until then, checking the  "Limit to Full Text" box on the search results screen does work.

2. When limiting search results by Lexile level in EBSCO Explora, search results include articles with no Lexile level assigned. We have addressed this with EBSCO and they are looking into it.

3. In all iCONN Explora searches when search results are sorted by Lexile level, the levels are displayed in descending order according to the number of hits in the Lexile range, not in descending order according to the Lexile ranges. In other words, a search of rain forest in Explora for Middle Schools might yield this Lexile Range result:

Lexile Range
    1101-1300 (2,490)
    1301-1500+ (1,691)
    901-1100 (1,469)
    701-900 (613)
    401-700 (260)
    0-400 (21)

rather than this result:

Lexile Range
    1301-1500+ (1,691)
    1101-1300 (2,490)
    901-1100 (1,469)
    701-900 (613)
    401-700 (260)
    0-400 (21)

iCONN has put in a request to EBSCO to render Lexile Ranges in search results in descending order of Lexile Range. EBSCO agrees that this is an issue and is committed to fix it.

I will write again when there is news to report about these issues.
