I was previously at high school. The students and teachers loved SIRS Issue Researcher. They found it user friendly and students often used it.

I was just about to subscribe to SIRS Issue Researcher from Proquest for next year because I was unsatisfied with Issues and Controversies from FactsOnFile. Does anyone use that one? I think it's different from the Infobase SIRS. I looked at the trial and liked it.

We used Opposing Viewpoints for a few years- and it wasn't used that much. I switched to Infobase Learning SIRS- Social Issues Research Service. Over 300 controversial topics framed with essential questions and viewpoints. Organized for topic search, visual search, alpha, and top 10. Includes organizers and lots of support.

For us, OVIC was written at a higher level for most students, and teachers were not that fond of it either. I use SIRS for the research 'go to' for the Great Debate in public speaking classes. I like the interface better as well.

I would agree with Cathy. The viewpoint essays are great for debates and opinion papers. Students can also find information from a variety of sources including statistics.

Opposing Viewpoints, which is part of Gale Cengage. Our teachers and students also prefer Gale's "In Context" databases to what's available in ICONN.

 Hi all,
 If you could purchase just
one database, which one would it be? I am the librarian at Plainfield High School and I am researching databases to purchase for next year. I have looked at a few of your websites to see what databases you are
linked to. I am looking at Infobase Learning, ABC-CLIO, and Gale Cengage. We currently have ICONN, Grolier, and Gale Virtual Reference Library.

 Thanks,
