Dear colleagues,

Thank you so much for the dozens of replies, pictures, stories and suggestions. It was very interesting to hear how different high schools have handled this situation. I am on phase 1 of withdrawing thousands of antiquated reference books. I have emailed our teachers throughout the process and they have come down to take certain things for their classrooms. Some of these books will be kept and become part of the nonfiction section. Databases now cover most of these topics. It was gratifying to learn that so many libraries are handling this situation in similar ways.

Again, many thanks!

TG

Subject: [CASL-L] reference collections

Good morning.

I am wondering how many high school libraries still keep a printed reference section. If so, what types of books does it feature? We are substantially weeding our reference section and I was curious to see how many schools have eliminated it entirely.

Thanks!
