Here's a reference for music/audio copyrights-
US Copyright Office
http://www.copyright.gov
Tom W. Bell's "Music Copyrights Table"
http://www.tomwbell.com/teaching/Music(C)s.html
probably not best idea to download to your iPhone...
I'm looking at Copyright for Teachers and Librarians in the 21st Century by Rebecca P Butler (from the ALA store)
Seems that a good rule of thumb is 'you don't have a problem til you have a problem' per my former principal and it would be awful to be the cover story of the small town newspaper.

I'm pretty sure downloading to the school server is a copyright violation. : ( But having served on 5 ALA/YALSA audiobook committees, including Odyssey 3 times, YAY AUDIOBOOKS!!!!!!

#yiv1856575789 When I check out CDs from my
public library, I use my laptop to download on itunes so I
can listen on my iPhone. I label it as a library book and
delete the file when I’m finished listening. I never have
to worry that I may bring the disks back late and can listen
at my leisure. If you are a 1:1 school, could you download
the files on the school server and limit the checkout the
way Overdrive or Hoopla does? Don’t know if that would be
a copyright violation or not. From: CASL-L [mailto:casl-l-bounces at mylist.net]

Subject: [CASL-L] Audiobooks on
CD Hello, We have a substantial
collection of audiobooks on CD (including MP3), but many
students no longer own CD players. I am wondering what
others have done so that these materials can still be of
use. Has anyone actually purchased small disc players for
checkout with an audiobook? Other ideas? Also, what have you
purchased in place of the CDs? Playaways? Are your students
accessing digital audiobooks as much as they did CDs? Thanks
in advance!
