Current events classes - I have suggested they get to know RSS feeds (or use an app like flipboard to identify exactly what you want to be 'fed') as a function of watching news develop on  particular topic. I'm not sure you can get anymore current than ResearchITCT. There you'd also find Bios on presidential candidates.
