[CASL-L] research/citation tools--what is your school using?

We just started a free trial to Imagine Easy Scholar and am very curious to see how it will work. So far I like how it integrates with the student and teacher Google accounts and can be easily tied into Google Classroom. Plus it seems to break things down so it can be used with elementary students who are just starting to get used to citing their work.

For those of you using Noodletools, is anyone using it at the elementary level? It seems to be more technical and targeted for middle / high school students.

I already sent my reply to the original poster but, since there seems to be a lot of interest in the replies this is what I said:

We use NoodleTools. I'm in a 9-12 building. I like it a lot. Since it was started by a librarian and her son, I feel like I am speaking to actual human beings whenever I need to contact them instead of a giant corporation.

I concur with all of the other positive things that others have said about NodleTools as well.

I couldn't agree more with all the  Noodletools comments. We just switched after a couple of years with Easybib. The new interface which will come to us in Fall 2016 has taken care of many small annoying pieces. They even asked about making the change mid year (over the holiday break) and enough users were using the tool mid year they moved the change to end of school year, causing less disruption. If you're considering the purchase & can wait till Fall 2016, I'd recommend waiting.

I think the biggest plus is the School Librarian,  Deb Abilock & her son created the tool, enough said!

We have been Noodle Tools subscribers for many years. We looked at Easy Bib and rejected it because it did too much work for the students.  Students could easily create an entire works cited list without ever actually opening or reading any sources.

I don't like the way Noodle Tools works on an iPad but I find it reliable in every other way. (it works on an iPad, it is just more finicky and less consistent)

I still stand by Noodle Tools as the best citation tool out there for teaching students to create their own citations.

Anyone who subscribes to EasyBib School Edition (paid version of EasyBib, not the free one) is aware of the fact that this platform will no longer be available after June 2016. The company "Imagine Easy" has changed to a platform called Scholar.

I have some reservations about simply switching to the Imagine Easy Scholar platform. One big concern is that the Scholar extension (through Google) often creates citations wrong (with major mistakes). It's only as good as the metadata used to create it. After a citation is created, students can then edit it to fix the mistakes.

Though Imagine Easy Scholar works well with the Google platform (this is a plus), in my opinion, Scholar doesn't do as good of a job "teaching" how to evaluate sources or showing how citations are created/built as the EasyBib School Edition platform did. Which brings me to another major concern: even with a discount (44%) for being an EasyBib SE subscriber, the price for Imagine Easy Scholar is three times as much as EasyBib SE.

My question, therefore, is what is everyone else using out there as a research platform to help your students become productive and ethical researchers? In your answer, please include the grade levels you teach.

I've been using EasyBib School Edition with grades 3 - 9 for about 4 years. Before that, we were using NoodleTools with grades 5 - 9. (We made our switch before NoodleTools overhauled their platform.) We made the switch because, at the time, NoodleTools was not working well for our population.
