I've subscribed to JLG for a few years now as a great way to get top-rated books for my students who demand the latest. We have a limited (as in, nearly nonexistent) budget, but I still want to have a few things on the New Book shelf every month. I've switched categories around, but am currently getting HH (High Interest), Y+, and YM (Mature YA), and I've been happy with most of the selections. There have been a few "why did they choose THIS?" moments over the years, but most of those were actually when I was also getting a nonfiction category. Overall, we've gotten titles that were named on mock award sites and eventually won real awards--and I'm not sure I would have bought this year's Printz, "Bone Gap," from reviews, if it hadn't been a JLG selection. There ARE quite a few series titles, and if you don't have the first books in the series, it doesn't always make sense to start at Book 3--but you ALWAYS have the option of substituting another JLG title, from ANY category, for the one you don't want. If your kids are as into autographed copies as mine are, you might also want to look into Strand Bookstore's subscription service, where you get brand new SIGNED YA books by top authors.
