Hi Chris –

If your friend can load Google Chrome on his computer, then it looks like he has several options for browser extensions that support speech-to-text. These are the first several choices I found:
Dictation<http://www.labnol.org/internet/dictation-for-google-chrome/24719/>
Speechnotes<https://speechnotes.co/>
Dictation.io<https://dictation.io/>
Voice Note II Speech-to-Text<https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/voicenote-ii-speech-to-te/hfknjgplnkgjihghcidajejfmldhibfm?hl=en>
Speechlogger<https://speechlogger.appspot.com/en/>
Talktyper<https://talktyper.com/>
Speech Pad<https://speechpad.pw/>

This is a short article summarizing some other options: http://www.freetech4teachers.com/2014/03/speech-to-text-and-text-to-speech-in.html#.Vys_4eQ-UqI

I hope one of those works for him!

Maria

Subject: [CASL-L] Speech to Text program

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine asked me if I could recommend a speech to text voice recognition program.
He doesn’t know too much about them, however neither do I.
He is using a Dell Inspiron 3647 Windows 7 computer, but that’s all I know if it makes a difference.
I had one mention of Dragon Naturally Speaking, but it was thought that it was difficult to use.
Has anyone used that or can say one way or the other how it is to use?
Are there any other programs that might be worth passing on?
Thanks in advance.
