How Did They Do It? A Rhode Island Case Study - A Multi-Year, Multi-Partner, IMLS Grant Project<http://cslib.libcal.com/event/2489650>
This workshop will provide a case study highlighting challenges and lessons learned about the innovative partnership between two Rhode Island public libraries, various community organizations and higher education as part of Adult Lifelong Learning (ALL) Access, a grant-funded initiative through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).  ALL Access Core Team members will explain how they created a four-tiered model for addressing digital literacy, adult education and workforce development needs in libraries.  In this highly interactive session, the ALL Access team will walk attendees through their process from getting the project off of the ground to final reporting.  The team will address concepts related to agile program development, developmental evaluation, user-centered program design, data driven decision-making, team building and connected learning and how they can be applied to each attendees' unique situation.
As a result of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

*        Recognize the potential for the library's role in workforce development and adult education.

*        Employ a user-centered and connected learning perspective in evaluating their current programs.

*        Evaluate how ALL Access approaches can be applied to their work.

*        Establish connections with colleagues for further collaboration.

The appearance of your library heavily influences the way it is perceived in the community. While the staff and board members can often list the limitations of their library building; just as often familiarity can blind them to easily addressed problems regularly experienced by the users. If new construction is not in your near future that doesn't mean you shouldn't make the most of what you have now. This workshop will provide practical information and tips on refreshing, redesigning, and remodeling your facility and space.
We'll focus on:
*    How to regain the users' perception from streetscape to wayfinding and contemporary safety concerns .
*    How to  step  back and re-examine and rethink your facility and space layout with an eye towards more effective, dynamic, customer-focused use.
*    How to determine whether an extreme makeover or gentle updating is needed.
*    How to assess of your building.
*    How to develop an effective maintenance programs and communicate with users when a big project is underway.
