Design Principles for Great Flyers - Part 1
Every library produces flyers and newsletters, but most of us don't have a graphic design degree. In this beginner level workshop, participants will learn a few easy-to-implement tips for fonts, colors, and layouts to make materials pop. Knowledge of Microsoft Word required.
Objectives:
1. To understand the design principles of typefacing (fonts)
2. To understand the basics of color theory and symbolism
3. To learn basic layout principles used in good designs
4. To complete a design project
The presenter is Caitlin Augusta.
This is a free, hands-on class taking place on Thursday, April 20 from 9 am to noon in the computer lab at the Middletown Library Service Center, 786 South Main Street, Middletown CT. Limit of 12 attendees.

Design Principles for Great Flyers - Part 2
This class is for library staff who have a basic understanding of good design principles (or have taken part 1 of this class) and want to get more creative with banners, buttons, graphics, and flyers. Realizing most libraries don't have the time or money to invest in high-end graphic design options, this 3-hour class will teach project design in Canva - a low cost, web-based graphic design program.
Objectives:
1. To understand the principles of good design
2. To become familiar with the Canva design environment
3. To create graphic design projects in Canva
4. To export graphic designs to media or for printing and other distribution outlets
The presenter is Caitlin Augusta.
This is a free, hands-on class taking place on Thursday, May 18 from 9 am to noon in the computer lab at the Middletown Library Service Center, 786 South Main Street, Middletown CT. Limit of 12 attendees.
