Unattractive cover, yellowing, falling apart--weed UNLESS it's in the curriculum/summer reading list/classic or still circ-ing despite appearance, but try to replace with a prettier edition.
Multiple copies of a formerly hot title--keep one after it's cooled. (I just had a request for Twilight, for instance.)
Five years since the last circ is a decent rule of thumb for weed-able. That said, I just checked out novel that hasn't gone out in eight years, and the student was excited to have found it.
Try not to break up a series.
I know I'll think of other criteria...

Hi,
I know this has come up many times
before (so apologizes in advance) but I can't seem to
remember the consensus.
I am genrefying our collection and
am dealing with a very old fiction section. A lot of the
books do not look very appealing - outdated covers,
yellowing pages, etc... So, I am wondering what criteria
some of you have used to determine whether a book should
stay or go. Thoughts?
