Hi everyone,
Here is a link to a message that went out to CLC school members about Baker & Taylor and Follett in early February: http://conta.cc/2mlgH8B
It is true that K-12 schools who use B&T are being transitioned from B&T to Follett, and that Follett will no longer honor the CLC contract with B&T after June 30. CLC member schools may continue to order with the B&T discount through June 30, as David mentioned. Non-members were supposed to be converted over to Follett earlier this month. (More detail in the message linked above)
Mackin and Ingram are both CLC contracted full-service book suppliers who are enthusiastic about working with K-12 schools. Both offer substantial discounts to CLC members, and the ability to easily integrate purchases into Follett catalogs. We offered webinars with both providers recently. A recording of one of the Mackin webinars is available here: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/recording/6645920349819472898
General information about CLC’s book contracts is available here: http://www.ctlibrarians.org/books
If you have questions, please let me know and I will get you to the right person.
Best,
Christine

I've been using Follett for awhile, but for next year I am seriously considering switching to Mackin.
Has anyone used them and if so, what have been your experiences with them?
How are their selections compared to Follett? Do you find that they are reliable in filling orders, or are you having a lot of titles backordered?
How is their pricing compared to B&T, are they part of the CLC?
Thanks.

B&T is still working with public libraries, however.

As
most of you know, Follett purchased Baker & Taylor last
year. I asked my service rep at Baker & Taylor about the
rumors that B&T would no longer be selling books to
school libraries, and this was her reply:
Yes
this is true. I am now a Public Library
rep.As
of June 30th Baker
and Taylor will no longer be filling orders for school
libraries.All
orders received after this date, will be sent to
Follett.So
if you need to place an order, please place before this
date.Follett
purchased Baker and Taylor last April.
This
is bad news for those of us who have been using B&T for
most of our print purchases, especially since we have been
able to enjoy a substantial discount (up to 40 percent) on
many of their titles through our membership in the
CLC.
