FRIDAY: GOV. MALLOY KICKS OFF SUMMER READING CHALLENGE; SPEAKS AT ARMED FORCES DAY EVENT; MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT ON FUTURE OF THE STATE'S HIGHWAY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM


(HARTFORD, CT) - On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will attend the kick-off event launching the 2017 Governor's Summer Reading Challenge and honoring the winners of the 2016 challenge.  The Governor's Summer Reading Challenge is an annual program co-sponsored by the State Department of Education (SDE) and the State Library that encourages reading among school students during the summer months.  He will be joined by SDE Commissioner Dianna Wentzell and State Librarian Kendall Wiggin.

At noon, Governor Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman will deliver remarks at the 68th annual Connecticut Armed Forces Day luncheon in Southington, which is hosted by the Connecticut National Guard and pays tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Following that, Governor Malloy will hold a news conference at the State Capitol to make an announcement regarding the future of the Connecticut Highway Assistance Motorist Patrol program.  The program, operated by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), assists stranded motorists on the state's highways.  He will be joined by CTDOT Commissioner James P. Redeker and others.
