Three Rivers Community College

Want to develop your or your staff’s cataloging skills?  Three Rivers Community College offers Cataloging and Classification online this fall.
Students in this course gain an understanding of the principles and practices of cataloging including copy cataloging, subject headings and classification systems. Students also learn how to incorporate RDA rules as they create original bibliographic records.  Students practice mapping the new standards of BIBFRAME onto existing rules for description, including FRBR (Functional Requirements of Bibliographic Records) and FRAD (Functional Requirements of Authority Data).  Students will catalog both print and non-print materials.

Why should library support staff know about the Library Bill of Rights?  What are the elements of excellent library customer service? These and other key concepts of library foundations are taught this fall online in Introduction to Library Public Services.
This course is an introduction to library services in libraries of all types.  Students will learn about procedures such as circulation, reference, and interlibrary loan.  Other services such as public relations, programming, and displays are also discussed, as well as the importance of Intellectual Freedom and Censorship. The role of LSS in customer service is emphasized.
