Hi Torrie,
Have you ever tried Wonderopolis.org? I used it with my fifth graders when we had some time left at the end of the day and they loved it. Students can search almost any topic/question they can think of, so it makes it possible to reach a variety of interests. The articles can be a little higher level with the vocabulary depending on the topic, but they aren’t very long and there is a text reader as an available option. Hope this helps!

They see me for fixed classes 45 min/week and the last 10-15 min. is book check out. The kiddos that renew or pick a book in the 1st minutes have time to make a productive choice and I’d like to have a list of choices ready for them so they don’t think it’s YouTube/play time! We have one small makerspace and of course some will choose to read, but could you please share your online favorites for those short blocks of time that don’t need direction/monitoring?
