I concur with the previous suggestions. We circulate the Amulet series a lot by Kazu Kibuishi. Anything by Jason Reynolds, particularly Miles Morales, Spiderman has been popular. The Blood Guard series by Carter Roy or The Six series by Mark Alpert are very suspenseful.

Love Jason Reynolds' books. Especially liked Ghost which is the first of a four book series.

Hi Katie,
Without knowing what this student is interested in personally (sports, video games, etc.), it is hard to make a definite recommendation, but some suggestions might be:

The Crossover books by Kwame Alexander
Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes
Swindle by Gordon Korman
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick
The Bone Series by Jeff Smith
Unwind and Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman

Good luck!

I have a sophomore who struggles to find books he enjoys. I've tried offering him a wide variety of titles and genres (including some of my usual reluctant reader go-to regular novels, graphic novels, hi-lows, etc.). He expressed frustration recently and told me he just wants to like a book again like he did when he was little :(, which kind of broke my heart-he mentioned fond memories of reading Magic Treehouse and the Lunch Lady series. I'm going to order a few Wimpy Kids, which I personally love but don't currently have in my collection. Any ideas for other titles or series I could try with him?
Thanks!
-Katie
