[CASL-L] Researching TWO topics -- the history of American History textbooks and Immigration

Hi all,  I'm writing to the one group of school librarians and others who I think can come through for me out here in Southern California. I'm starting a research project with a group of fifth graders to look at viewpoint and bias in American History textbooks through the years and would like to find a digital database of some of the older ones that are out of print (and out of copyright as well!)  I've been doing my best to find actual history pages but to no avail.   Perhaps my own research skills are rusty--no, they ARE rusty! We're not sure where this is going to lead, but ultimately we want them to design a Google Site using loads of primary sources of all kinds. Ellis Island, genealogy databases, LOC and others will be used as well as local and national newspaper databases.
