[CASL-L] website evaluation

We used to use CRAP test but stopped because students were missing the
point. For example, they'd tell us about currency for topics where currency
was not particularly relevant. Also, they always wanted to write their
website evaluation as an acrostic poem:

   - Current - because it was updated last year
   - Relevant - because it was about my topic
   - Authoritative - because the author is well known
   - etc.

Now, they discuss CRAP test in middle school, but in grades 9/10 we focus
on source authority. For each source they use, they must include an
annotation that explains:

   - Who wrote the content of this source?
   - What education/experience/background makes this person an expert on
   this topic?

If they can not determine the author of a source, they can not use it.
Sometimes, students can defend a source without an author if they find a
general "About" section that explains what team of people write the content
or some other valid response. Science teachers often require them to
include a currency statement as well because it is science.

We had an assessment we used last year to pre and post-assess students on
this task. Information on that is HERE

Hope that is helpful.
