[CASL-L] Mittens from sweaters

Hi,

I have been sewing since 1983 and I have been working part-time as a sewing
instructor since 2014.

Be aware that the first video shared requires a sewing machine. If you
don’t have machine(s) (or have younger kids) you can make it buy hand
stitching with a running and “blanket” stitch to secure all the threads.
Casey’s video is the way to go and you can get more mittens per sweater if
you continue to folder the sweater (turn sweater inside out first), which
also cuts down on the amount of sewing required (for short attention
spans). It also means you don’t have to sew on a band or print out a
pattern. Just fold, trace the person’s hand, cut out, sew and flip
right-side out.

Also, as I warned someone off line, be careful of the fiber content of the
sweater as some natural fibers can feel scratchy on young/sensitive skins.

I’m available if CASL would like to set up a group crash course on this or
any other sewing-related crafts.

Happy holidays,

"The old idea of the librarian as a sort of recluse closeted with his books
and

interested only in them is the very antithesis of the modern librarian, who

must live with people equally with books, and who must also be keenly aware

of all that is going on in the world around him."

~Linda A. Eastman~ (Head Librarian of the Cleveland Public Library, 1918 to
1938)
