Hello all,
Curious if any LMS's out there are teaching Project Lead the Way with grade 4? My district is would like to send me to training this summer and I'd like to know more about the time commitment of teaching the program as I consider how it fits into my current schedule. How many times a week should lessons be taught? How long is a lesson block?
I currently have a fixed schedule teaching 18 classes (6 each in grades 3-5) per week. My open blocks are for book clubs, collaborations, STEAM activities, etc. and I'm concerned those flex times will be lost adding a new program. Can PLTW be taught once a week? I was under the impression it should be taught 3x/week for 45 minutes each so that's posing a scheduling challenge, if my understanding is correct. I should also mention that I have a Library Assistant who I will lose next year so I will be absorbing her tasks as well.
I have very supportive administration who would like to include me in all conversations but I'd love your help to brainstorm all things I'll need to consider when advocating for my schedule next year. I'd hate to lose my fixed blocks but love my flex blocks too. I've thought of spending a trimester with each grade level but when I add in SBAC testing & test prep lessons, that wouldn't work. Any suggestions from others familiar with PLTW or coordinating a fixed/flex scheduling with no Assistant are much appreciated!
