I'm glad we'll have you on board. We're going to have a librarians from all aspects of youth librarianship joining our committee so I think we're really going to be able to set up a positive and structured environment to address the thoughts these articles generate.

The Early Literacy Research article really gets me thinking, especially as it is asking questions that have been in the back of my mind for so long. It's so worth having a conversation about who "we" are as libraries, and using that discussion to frame what we do. Thank you for sharing. I'm very keen on exploring some different perspectives.

Hello librarians,

As many of you may know I stepped into the position of Youth Consultant back in August and have spent my time learning my new role, traveling, and trying to find my place.

After attending the 2019 CSLP Annual meeting, I began to think long and hard about the Summer Reading program. My thoughts continued to churn after reading these two articles https://www.educationnext.org/is-summer-learning-loss-real-how-i-lost-faith-education-research-results/<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fwww.educationnext.org%2fis-summer-learning-loss-real-how-i-lost-faith-education-research-results%2f&c=E,1,8MVzYu2LaFvUmT7WBXI3CcaV8bqpFS62tWdNra6G2UVP9vT6uZAExR0nx-I4D8QfZx25mlz6olhuANDGmvgSfVkQTlNQLF0tyPEx8NrFYNsMVWBspJpl&typo=1> and https://jbrary.com/early-literacy-research-is-not-neutral-a-critique-of-every-child-ready-to-read/<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fjbrary.com%2fearly-literacy-research-is-not-neutral-a-critique-of-every-child-ready-to-read%2f&c=E,1,pwjBOqCbTpSNMFq1_RHYnx35CvzbDO4BW9TIL43OmRcKQ2ZQ7rjsX5p2sdMl_TDNS40YMlUGtoAEkw1atk60asfnxPdSG0cwGOe8biEU2Anj_Q,,&typo=1>. Finally when two fellow youth consultants shared information about state wide sessions they facilitated on summer reading in their states I thought it might be time for Connecticut to have a conversation as well.

I would like to put together a committee of people to help me organize a Summer Summit (early 2020). Volunteers would meet with me (either in person or virtually) and we would organize a day of presentations, discussions, panels, and whatever else we deemed necessary. This summit would allow Connecticut youth librarians to dedicate time and space to evaluate our goals for the summer reading program as a state, and how to turn those goals into tangible programs that are appropriate for our communities.

If anyone is interested in participating on this committee please fill out this Google form by November 1.
