[CASL-L] Summer Reading Celebrations in the Fall

Dear Kerry,

I had to grapple with this question this spring when our middle school librarian and I were faced with having to rethink our yearly "Literature Luncheon" which celebrates the joy of independent reading. When we finally gave up on the possibility of getting back to school I decided on doing a Flipgrid and any students who participated could be invited to a later Google Meet for further discussion. In the Flipgrid was included my "Welcome" video followed by other various topics including "Tell us about your book" a couple of StoryCorps radio broadcasts related to the genre topic we chose this year, a brief video related to the theme, and a "What's your big takeaway?" topic. For each topic students can post their own videos in response to the questions that were posed, thus adding to the "discussion." Certainly not the same as a live celebration, but I think it was a good place to start. Depending where we are in the fall I might try something different just to keep mixing it up 🙂. I know you are K-5...my daughter is in 5th grade and she loves Flipgrid. Hope this helps and I hope you are well. Have a great summer!
Hope you are well and take care!

Subject: [CASL-L] Summer Reading Celebrations in the Fall

Hi everyone,

Our summer reading celebrations when we return to school in the fall have typically involved some group events and assemblies, which I'm assuming won't be able to happen this year. Does anyone have ideas for alternatives? Thank you!
