[CASL-L] Transitioning to 1:1 in high school

Hi Stephanie,
We went 1-1 last year. At first, chromebooks were not connected to printers but over time tech did connect them and that helped a lot.
Still, we have a bank of computers in the Library for students and teachers to use to send their docs to the copier printer (set up near the copier) which are really handy.
You will have students who forget their chromebooks or did not charge them. So, it's nice to have a set which will enable you to loan them out for use while students are in the Library. Charging stations are also key, but you will want to be able to lock them up while charging. Depending on how much help you have in your library, you may want to avoid having the task of signing Chromebooks in/out for the day (to take with them to class) to students who have forgotten theirs or do not have theirs charged. This is a frequent problem.
I ordered more "loungy" furniture in the past few years, but I have learned the hard way to NEVER get reclining chairs or furniture long enough for students to lie down. Even with signage warning against it, you will have to tell students multiple times/day to not lie down (and explain why...ugh!).
Hope this helps! Have a great summer and enjoy your new upgrades. 🙂

Subject: [CASL-L] Transitioning to 1:1 in high school
Hello Library Brain Trust!
We are transitioning to a 1:1 chromeboook environment this fall!
Lots of opportunities to re-design the library.
Some prelim questions- does anyone have a bank of computers for printing? (We currently don't connect chromes to the printers, and the before-school rush to print English essays is nuts.
I'm also wondering ... what did others do that worked? what didn't work? what did you wish you had done differently with 20/20 hindsight?
We are also limiting access to 1 door (rather than 4 - one on each corner) and scanning in IDs for PowerSchool to track attendance. And, we getting new carpet and flooring!! Exciting times!
This will be a big deal in July and August for us.
Thanks in advance for any tips, tricks and advice... happy summer!
