Fair Use on YouTube

--

Hi all,

My principal has created a private YouTube channel with various videos of her reading aloud to post to our families only. At the beginning of each recording, she has mentioned the author, illustrator & publisher to give credit before reading. Is there anything else she needs to be doing to make sure she's covered her bases or is she ok under Fair Use here?

She got the following email shared with her and is now concerned:

I follow Julia Cook on FB and she recently posted this....would be important for folks to know...

Hundreds of people have asked me
"Can I videotape myself reading your books and use them with online lessons?"
YES! But you must use a looped system to do this such as Seesaw or Zoom so that it is accessible to your kids and families only. It is illegal to post these videos on Instagram, YouTube or Facebook Live. Please also remember to state the title and the author. Please be respectful and responsible with this request. More help coming from me soon. Love, Julia
