Registration Open for the Dream – Build – Create Engineering Program for Libraries during November 2020
We invite public libraries across the country to participate in an exciting virtual engineering experience this coming November called Dream – Build – Create, an introduction to engineers and engineering for people of all ages, especially families and children. This inspirational program will offer libraries and their patrons a free film screening of the award-winning documentary Dream Big: Engineering Our World on November 10, 14, 17, and 24.
In addition to the film, ASCE is organizing several virtual panels in November where patrons can join live conversations with our Dream Teams of young, diverse engineers. Dream Teams will include Cities of the Future, Women in Engineering, Black Engineers, and even a Spanish-language Dream Team. Register now<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/6wafou> for a passcode to gain free access to Dream Big. You will also receive updates on when and how to log into Dream Team panels.
Tailor the experience for your community using resources such as the Playful Building collection<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/mpbfou> of activities.

"Guide on the Side" Facilitation
We are pleased to share STEAM Learning in Public Libraries: A “Guide on the Side” Approach for Inclusive Learning<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/y2dfou> written by STAR Net team members Brooks Mitchell, Claire Ratcliffe, and Keliann LaConte and published in the Fall 2020 (Vol 18, No 3) edition<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/evefou> of the Association for Library Service to Children's (ALSC<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/unffou>) Children and Libraries (CAL<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/aggfou>) journal.
This article highlights strategies, resources, and interactive activities that library staff can use to engage patrons of all ages in active STEAM learning. “Guide on the Side” facilitation<https://t.e2ma.net/click/ao259d/6094u8/q8gfou> allows patrons to explore new concepts and ideas in a meaningful way by drawing on their own lived experiences and discussing their thinking with others. After all, STEAM facilitation isn't about being a keeper of knowledge; it's about empowering learners to discover answers for themselves!

STEAM from Home: Side Scooper
By Caitlin Savage
Around May of 2020, it became pretty clear that library programming was going to look different for the foreseeable future. Having successfully produced the Saponify! video, it seemed like, while not a perfect vehicle, a regular STEAM video program could serve as a stand in for my in-person monthly STEAM Engines program.
