[CASL-L] Follett Frustration

This may or may not address the issue, because the books do not come processed, but I have great success when ordering from Book Outlet. Obviously they don’t have the most current selection because they sell publisher remainders, but I’ve received my orders quickly. And it’s CHEAP.

If you order older titles from them maybe processing them yourself may not be as much of a project since it’s only a few; order processed current titles from Mackin/Follett/Ingram/wherever and perhaps a small processed order will be shipped more quickly.

Subject: Re: [CASL-L] Follett Frustration

I usually LOVE Mackin, they've been my go-to since B&T stopped doing schools, but I placed 4 orders in April and didn't get most of them until the last week of school (mid June) and even got a shipment notification yesterday for the rest of one of the orders (5 months later....). I do think it's across the board for book distributors, I don't know what solution there is other than placing smaller orders, which I know isn't ideal for most of us who like to spend our budgets ASAP.

I love Ingram!!!
I can’t say enough good things about the company. Easy to set up accounts, easy to order, books arrive super fast (sometimes just a fee days!), and you can easily see what is in stock. I ordered very little from Follett last year and mostly from Ingram.

I have had success with Permabound and you do not have to buy the Permabound binding. For picture books I always purchased either library bound or regular hardcover. Check in with Ken Kuckel. They might be in the same situation but last school year, they were pretty quick with a high fill rate and abut 12-15% cheaper.

Before I retired, I had used Mackin for my book orders. Very helpful and they were good at answering and responding to questions.

I am in the same situation. I am also looking for a vendor that has books in stock and can get them out in a timely manner.
Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I am very frustrated with the delays I am experiencing with Follett. Can you kindly recommend book vendors who offer processing and get orders in your library quickly? I need the processing because I do have any clerical help and our district is not allowing volunteers. I am happy to catalogue, cover, and label the occasional title but I cannot manage large orders in a timely fashion. We are CLC members. Thanks in advance!
Allison
