[CASL-L] Library Staffing

In Groton, MS and HS have one FT librarian and a .5 librarian (me) each. Each school also has a FT LTA. Our MS/HS policy is 1 certified librarian per 500 students. Our schools are closer to if not over 1,000. Before they had me split schools, they got away with a FT librarian and an LTA at the HS in spite of the policy. We recently combined two middle schools into a new too small building and constructed 2 new elementary schools, closing 3. I would check the NEASC recommendations for HS libraries. That should be powerful.
Each of our elementary schools has at least one FT librarian. The two biggest have someone like me who splits two schools. They have no LTAs. I believe they are supposed to be 1:300 students, but I have not double checked. The elem librarians are currently advocating for an LTA to rotate. They have all our support.

Good luck! Lizanne

Hi Kim,
In Windsor we have a FT LMS at our elementary schools, ms, and hs. We have full-time paras at the ms and hs.

Hello,

Our district has a full time certified LMS at all schools, some have a part time para or full time para or both depending on our numbers (how large our school is).

Hello LMSs, I am working on new staffing guidelines for our district.(urban district 20,000 students, K-12) I will certainly be using AASL standards as my guide. I would like to go into the meeting talking about best practices in the state, especially in light of the Ct Dept of Ed adopting the new AASL & ISTE standards in Dec 21 - Jan 22.
If you feel comfortable sharing your system's staffing information I would most appreciative. I am most interested in systems that have a FT LMS in each school.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.
