 There's also this:

The high school books mention if there's language, etc., and quite a few of the middle grade titles would work well with 9th graders, too.

 Hello all--
Is anyone else doing First Chapter Fridays in a high school? Looking for books with really good, enticing, fairly clean beginnings to read out loud to 9th graders! Would anyone want to collaborate and add suggestions to a Google Doc? I've been doing it since Sept with our freshmen and they LOVE it, so I've got a bunch that already worked, but I'd be happy to share! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QeRuzKDG9DylMBt3x7a8mQfBlqA1MbuFXJtOEM-WsDs/edit?usp=sharing
