[CASL-L] 2023 Nutmeg Award Update

In late 2021 the Nutmeg Steering Committee decided to move the release date for Nutmeg Book Award nominees from February 14 to March 15. This decision was made after careful consideration of requests from educators, librarians, and committee members themselves. After much discussion, the committee decided the best course of action for all parties concerned would be to release the titles on the nutmegaward.org<http://nutmegaward.org/> website, move out the release date by a month, and not require requesters to submit an email in advance of the release (as was the prior practice).

The goal of the Nutmeg Book Award is to encourage children to read quality literature, and by releasing the list of nominees to the general public we hope to build excitement about and participation in the Nutmeg Book Award process while still providing ample time for libraries and schools to order the titles in time for the May 1 launch date of the new Nutmeg Book Award year.

This information was shared on those that are signed up to receive the Nutmeg Award newsletter as well as on the goodnightmoon, speak, conntech and CASL listservs.

The Nutmeg Award newsletter will be emailed on March 15. To sign up to receive the newsletter (three times per year), please go to NutmegAward.org<nutmegaward.org> and scroll to the bottom of the website.

I've given up on it. I don't think I'll get the books any time soon, especially since there are a lot sitting on an open order that are listed as Not in Stock.

I am missing the February date we’ve had in the past. My budget is also in danger but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get an order in as soon as titles are announced. My students really enjoy the titles and participating in the voting!

I hope so too!

Communication from the Nutmeg committee seems to be quite spotty this year. (Actually, a lot of things are spotty this year! 😀)

Nancy,

I too am concerned about getting my order in before the budget here freezes. I also hope the order comes in before school gets out!

Good morning!

Did I miss the release to librarians of the 2023 Nutmeg titles? I have to order the books before downtown takes my money away!

I thought I signed up to receive the list but maybe I didn't...

Thanks for any help you can give!
