[CASL-L] Weeded books

Hi all,
I don't want to be a jerk here, but this is a really important topic. I
spent a few months in rural Tanzania in 2018 setting up a library in a
region that had no library access or internet access at all.  We were
dealing with all donated materials.  I can't stress this point enough- if
the books are not good enough- for WHATEVER reason- for your students, they
are not good enough for the African students (or any students, for that
matter). Those students lead rich and full lives.  They do not need
misinformation, dated information, or fiction they can't connect to. In
addition, the east African countries I visited do not have a waste
management or recycling system.  They have no way to dispose of materials
that are unsuitable, short of burning them. Please consider recycling your
books if your district doesn't allow for straight disposal.  If there is
someone from Africa on here, I defer to you obviously, but I wanted to
share my experience.
