[CASL-L] Elementary Libraries - End Date

When I worked elementary (Pre-K-5th) - I stopped book check-out about 3 weeks before school ended. I used that time to show movies/finish up projects as a specials rotation since I was a teacher prep period. I shelved, cleaned, weeded, and tried to repair as many books as possible. Between classes I would go through teachers' rooms to gather any stray books. That was in Waterbury, and I feel many of my peers there still do something similar.
In middle school, I stopped check-out on May 12th a month ahead of our last day June 7th, all books were due on May 19th. I've been collecting since (856 on Friday the 19th to 141 today the 25th!) Since I had to do accountabilities, those had to be done ASAP for 6th-8th grades. I've yet to actually do a true full inventory here.
In Mansfield (Prek-4th, MS: 5th-8th) we stopped classes about a week before school ended and did inventory/weeding then. (That was way back in 2015, so I figure it's changed.)

WOW! That is awesome that you get to do that.
I have kids right up to the end of every year and I start with them on the first day of school. Inventory is something that I have had to let go of.

I also am not allowed to end regular library classes early because I’m in the specials rotation, so I’m teacher prep time.
I am, however, allowed to end my WINN enrichment classes two days early to try and get my inventory done then.

We do not end early, as the teachers need their planning period per contract. Thus, the fact that I have never actually been able to do an inventory. 😔

Hi Rebecca - We do not stop classes early. I just do the best I can - we do have 3 early dismissal days at the end, so that helps. I have parent volunteers that are helping me inventory this year, so that will help.
Best, Jenny

Good morning!
I'm wondering how many elementary school libraries close early in order to reshelve and run inventory. I am extremely lucky that my principal gives me the option to end classes a few days early to take on some of these major projects, but having come from the classroom I also understand that planning time for teachers is precious.
If you have a minute, could you please let me know if your district supports stopping library classes early and if so, how long?
