JOIN US! Please join the CT State Library, Division of Library Development (DLD) for an exciting new online series beginning November 2023 and continuing through June 2024. It is Augmented and Virtual Reality in the Library with AR/VR expert Jaime Donally. We are excited to welcome Jaime back for the following exciting workshops.
Create Augmented Reality Book Covers<https://cslib.libcal.com/event/11397001>
November 15 from 1-2:30
Augmented Reality technology has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for book cover designs. This session aims to demonstrate how AR book covers can generate interest and demonstrate content knowledge. We will begin with an overview of AR marker-based technology and how it works, then dive into the best practices for designing and implementing the augmented reality book covers.
Using Virtual Reality in the Library<https://cslib.libcal.com/event/11397480>
December 7 from 1-2:30
Virtual reality is a technology that has been gaining popularity in recent years, and it has found its way into every aspect of life, including the library. In this session, we will explore how virtual reality on the Meta Quest can be used in the library to enhance learning, engagement, and creativity. We will begin by discussing the basics of virtual reality and how it works. We will then delve into the various ways in which virtual reality can be used in the library, such as experiencing immersive stories and historical events.
Create an Immersive 3D Museum<https://cslib.libcal.com/event/11397493>
January 11 from 1-2:30
Creating an immersive 3D museum is an innovative project that stamps augmented reality assets into the physical world. Add artifacts using a mobile device or tablet and transform a library into a virtual museum. Whether you are a seasoned 3D designer or a beginner, this session will prepare you to build an unforgettable, immersive 3D museum experience.
Design an AR Library Scavenger Hunt
Date TBD February
Design an AR Library Scavenger Hunt using a smartphone or tablet. Engage visitors in an immersive scavenger hunt and spark their interest in new books. The hunt will utilize location and marker-based experiences to best support the users. You will learn how to create clues, design the AR experience, and incorporate educational content into the scavenger hunt in a library setting.
Build VR Art in the Library
Date TBD March
In this session, attendees will explore the intersection of technology and art by creating virtual reality artwork. We will start with a brief introduction to virtual reality art applications, followed by examples of pieces using the tools available on the Meta Quest. The wide range of virtual brushes, colors, and textures makes bringing your vision to life easy.
Augmented Reality Books to Explore
Date TBD April
Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that is transforming how we interact with the world around us, and now it's revolutionizing how we read books! Augmented Reality books are a fascinating way to experience the world of literature and bring stories to life like never before. We will examine titles that have augmented reality with details to order these interactive resources for your library.
Building the Metaverse in the Library
Date TBD May
Building the metaverse in the library explores the possibilities of designing augmented and virtual reality experiences. The session will examine how libraries can leverage the technology to provide a unique experience for their visitors, allowing them to explore and learn in a new way. To build and share immersive experiences, we will use web-based VR platforms and simple augmented reality apps.
Create Virtual Reality Tours
Date TBD June
If you've ever wanted to explore a far-off destination without leaving your library, virtual reality tours are just what you need. In this session, you'll learn how to create your own virtual reality tours using simple and accessible tools. We'll start by learning about the different types of virtual reality tours, followed by creating your own tours. The session includes a discussion about 360-degree cameras, adding 3D assets to enhance a scene, and experiencing the tours in virtual reality headsets.
