Hello to all,
I know I'm replying to a very old email, but I wanted to follow up on
Jenny's original post, as I signed up and just recently completed this
course of study involving teaching with primary sources from the LOC
through Waynesburg University. I want to let everyone know that this was
one of the best PD experiences I have had in recent years! The course is
free and consists of 6 weekly zoom meetings with a cohort of attendees from
various backgrounds (we had appx. 25 people in my class consisting of
teachers, librarians, non-profit workers, historians and others). Each week
we explored one or more resources from the LOC collection and utilized a
specific teaching strategy to explore. The goal of the course is to curate
an album of material from the LOC collection that you or one of your
teachers could utilize for their classes. I created an album focused on the
history of the U.S. National Parks for my grade 3-4-5 teachers to use.
Each week we also had a selection of readings/videos to watch that focused
on searching the LOC collection and various teaching materials.
I'm sending this review out to everyone in hopes that some of you may
explore this course as well. They run this class three times a year, and
the next session will be held over the summer...a great way to get some
exciting new skills. It is something to put on your radar for sure. It was
so nice to have PD that was relevant to what I do! :)
