Interview Questions we considered last time we hired a clerk. We didn't use
all of these, but we chose from this list.
*Technology*
- What is the last new skill or new piece of technology or software you
learned? When was that, and how did you go about learning it?
- Do you know how to operate a copier, laminator?
*Climate*
- What kind of atmosphere would you like to create in your library?
- Describe your ideal relationship with the teachers, teacher
librarians, students, admins in the district.
- How would you help students/teachers feel welcome in the LLC?
*General*
- How do you prioritize your time?
- Describe a time when you were asked to do multiple things
simultaneously? How did you manage that kind of multitasking?
- What process is most helpful to you in evaluating how well you are
doing your job?
- Can you share a situation when you were proactive?
- How would you react if a patron asked for help with something outside
of your knowledge base?
- How well do you work independently with minimal supervision?
- Do you have questions for us?
*Library*
- What kinds of things would you be doing that no one else in the
building could do?
- How would you handle a patron who wants a specific book but can't help
you with the title or author?
- Do you have any experience working with library circulation systems or
other technology-based tools?
- It’s almost School Library Month. What would you do to promote this
celebration? [creativity]
- What kinds of library tasks are you able to perform very well? What
are some things you might not do so well? What measures would you take to
gain the ability to do them well?
- Who are some of your favorite authors? Favorite books?
- What makes you an ideal candidate for a library clerk position?
*Teens*
- Tell me about experience you have working with teens?
- Describe a day in the school library for students. What does it look
like, feel like, sound like?
- Explain your student/behavior management style.
