 Jodie,
Can I suggest "When the Ground Is Hard" by Malla Nunn for the global booklist?  Two girls in a boarding school in South Africa bond over a shared love for "Jane Eyre."  For the same list, "When Stars Are Scattered" by Omar Mohamed and Victoria Jameson (graphic memoir by a young Somali man who grew up in a refugee camp with his disabled brother).
For the American Dream list, maybe "I Was Their American Dream," a graphic memoir by Malaka Gharib, who is of Egyptian/Filipino descent and along with her family arrived in the U.S. as an immigrant.    "Out of Nowhere" by Maria Padian is a really good novel about a Somali Muslim refugee family trying to fit into their new community in a struggling factory town in Maine; it was a Nutmeg High School selection a few years back--the main characters are boys who bond over soccer.

 Good evening,
I’m looking for suggestions of book titles (HS level) based on the following:
-what it means to be an American and the American Dream- Both fiction and non- fiction titles (10th and 11th grade reading level)
- fiction and non- fiction titles that are “global stories” and address the culture of society. (9th and 10th grade reading level)
Thank you,

Mrs. Jodie D’Alexander
