Hi Sarah-
I just met with one of our tech teachers to plan our middle school
makerspace club for the year. We have run it a little differently every
year, but at th middle level with the strict schedule restraints, we have
found that an afterschool club works best. We have students sign up for
the sessions they want to participate in and then we are able to collect
necessary supplies. In some cases we charge a fee for the supplies
(especially if they will be leaving with a takeaway). Here's what we came
up with: build a trebuchet, homemade bath bombs, 3D printing, cricut
designed stickers (for waterbottles or notebooks, etc). CNC games, Water
marbling, and something garden related. We have found that sessions that
hit a variety of interests get more students involved and/or have kids
trying things outside their comfort zone.
Hope this helps,
Kristen
