"Scythe"--N. Shusterman. Dystopian (though at first it seems more utopian), themes of leadership and the corrupting influence of power, teens with differing goals thrust into the same environment. There are deaths (because, of course, it's all about the future world's ways of deciding whose time it is to die), but it's not as on-the-page violent as LOTF.
"Beauty Queens"--L. Bray. Okay, the book makes more sense if you already know LOTF, but it covers similar situations and themes and besides all of that it is FUNNY. Even the "violent" parts. 1960s-cartoon-style violence. The premise is that a plane full of teen beauty pageant contestants goes down on a remote island. The girls--many of whom never had to deal with anything more distressing than a broken fingernail--need to survive, and to do that they need to find their and each other's strengths (which for some, at least at the beginning, seem to consist of knowing which lipstick shade works with which outfit) and work together (though as beauty pageant contestants they arrived fully prepared to hate each other as opponents). Little did they know the crash was no accident, and an evil mastermind (yes, an evil mastermind with a lair full of scientific experiments on an uncharted island) has plans for them. Truly, it is HILARIOUS while hitting many of the same notes as LOTF. And if you have a chance to listen to the audiobook narrated by the author, DO IT. My favorite phrase to use in certain situations comes from one of the baddies in that book: "You misunderestimate me."
