Hello AASL members,
The National Education Association has, in the past, had a Library,
Information Literacy, and Technology Caucus for Teacher-Librarians and
other related professionals. I recently learned that this group did not
collect the required members (50) to renew as a caucus this year.
In Washington state, at least, many of us still have jobs because of our
NEA-affiliated local unions. Have NEA members who are Teacher-Librarians
join together to represent our unique concerns and needs within this larger
group is essential.
If you are a member of NEA (at least in my state, being a member of our
local union automatically makes me a member of the state and national
organization), I encourage you to join this caucus so that they will be
officially recognized at next year's national conference.
You can learn more about the NEA LIT Caucus on their website here: NEA
LIT Caucus <https://sites.google.com/site/nealiltcaucus/home>.
To join, visit https://forms.gle/SKT5i4QCad5pdv3z8 .
While I have signed up to join the Caucus, my participation has thus far
been limited since I am not a delegate at the national assembly. However,
I am hoping to get more Teacher-Librarians involved in our unions in
Washington and encourage leaders in states where union support helps us
meet our goal of increased access to certficated Teacher-Librarians to do
the same. Please share this with others in your network. I hope that AASL
members can help revitalize this important group of educators within NEA.
