Subject: Minor RBdigital App Update & Other Information

RBdigital App
Post-Launch Update

The launch of the new RBdigital app has resulted in many positive comments as well as feedback on areas that could be improved. In response, we are providing a minor app update to patrons. An update to the Android app will be released in the next several days, followed by an update to the iOS app in the next several weeks.

App updates can happen in two ways: (1) automatically, if patrons choose to have their apps updated that way, or (2) manually, whereby patrons trigger the update.

Zinio for Libraries App Update

Starting August 1, a notification within the current Zinio for Libraries app will alert patrons to the availability of the new RBdigital app and give them the option to download it (see message text below).

The message will also show a countdown for when the Zinio for Libraries app will no longer function (currently planned for Sept. 30). Note that this period has been extended to provide a smoother transition.

Message Text: “Zinio for Libraries has merged with RBdigital. In X time period [the counter appears here] you will be able to access your magazine collection only on RBdigital. Please download the new RBdigital app now by clicking here. Note that your username and password will remain the same.”

Patrons will see these buttons at the bottom of the message: “Update to New App,” “Remind Me Later” and “Don’t Ask Me Again.”

When patrons install the RBdigital app, they can log in with the same credentials used for the Zinio for Libraries app. At the end of the countdown (currently planned for Sept. 30), the Zinio for Libraries app will be locked and patrons will see a message encouraging them to download the new app. At that point, patrons cannot access magazines without downloading the new app.

Message Text: “Zinio for Libraries has merged with RBdigital. To access your magazine collection, please download the new RBdigital app by clicking here. Note that your username and password will remain the same.”

The Zinio for Libraries app will remain on the device until patrons delete it. When the Zinio for Libraries app is deleted, all downloaded magazines will be removed from their device, freeing up memory. The new RBdigital app will list all previous checkouts, but those checkouts will need to be downloaded again as needed.
