The Ferguson library in Stamford allows students to get cards online through a program called, Linked Libraries. The program was only available in a few schools as they were rolling out this new program over the last two years. However, the program is on hold this year as the schools lost their media paras due to budget cuts and LMSs are too overwhelmed to manage the program at the moment.

The woman who coordinates the program is:

Subject: [CASL-L] ResearchITCT - referring URLs?

Hi again- here is an email I just sent to Eric @RESEARCHITCT - has anyone had an experience with this?  Does your public library issues cards digitally?  thanks- Barb

"Eric- Is it possible to utilize referring URL for the ResearchITCT databases?  The reason I ask is that our database page, which is password-protected,
lists many of the very useful ResearchITCT databases, and our teachers are starting to complain that it is not useful for their students, as they cannot access from home without a library card number.  I have asked the Wilton Library if we could get the cards online/virtually, but they say that the students must come into the library to get a card and access the databases.

If I was able to get links that were referring URLs, that would allow my students to access at home.

If this is not possible, I would ask: do you know if other libraries make it possible for students to get library cards online?"
