Many allergy sufferers do well with breeds that have predictable, non-shedding coats which produces less dander.

Yes this is important as well. I have started communicating with the nurse. I have letters drawn up for parents and have a separate space for the students to visit the animal.

As someone with significant allergies (most animals) and asthma I
encourage you all to know your population and consider student and
faculty health before starting this program.

Many of the dogs used are not hypoallergenic which means no matter how
diligent your custodial staff is, there will be residual dander left
behind.

While I do believe therapy dogs to be effective I question the wisdom
in having them in a public-access area such as a library.

Just my two cents.
