Thanks to all for the kind words of support and encouragement.
Budget concerns are increasing incrementally here. We received word that the teachers union was approached by administration for approve 2 furlough days this year, and advised that in the absence of furloughs, layoffs may follow THIS year.
The request was denied in the absence of a written stipulation that protected positions this school year, or provided 'rainy day' fund coverage from the town, or included participation of admins or other bargaining units.
Apparently the shortfall for this year may be in the $2 million range.
We have been told this is due to state funding cuts for the most part. I can't say I have a firm understanding of how state funding varies from district to district... a new research topic.
I am sharing this to help sound the alarm for all school districts, not to gather sympathy or generate ill will. These are very uncertain times. Stay tuned and keep the faith!
