Hi
There is a state law about Student Data Privacy (effective July 1 2018) that requires each district to have a signed contract that says the contractor/vendor
complies with the state law. Since the mic on the Echo is always on, it probably won’t comply.
The Law is
here and the CT State Commission for Education Technology Software Hub is
here.
It might be cool to have an Echo for ready reference, and some of the skills would have a place in a school library – there are some “choose your own adventure”
type interactive stories, but this new law would require Amazon to sign a contract saying that they comply with state law.
Cordially,

Subject: [CASL-L] Alexa in the Library
I was just having a conversation with a staff member this morning. Anyone purchase an Echo device to use Alexa in their libraries? Just curious. I have no experience with them. Since it's our job to connect
people with information, I was looking for thoughts on how folks feel this might fit into the world of info services.
Thanks!
