Hi Sarah -

I also work in the Children's department of a public library and they changed the call numbers:

examples:

Tales Red Riding Hood (so all of the cultural variations on the Little Red Riding Hood tale are grouped together)
Tales Cinderella
Tales Aesop's
Tales Gingerbread Man

Tales Creatures Mermaids
Tales Creatures Unicorns
Tales Creatures Dragons

They also grouped geographic folktales together by region:

Tales England
Tales Kenya
Tales Puerto Rico
etc.

Additionally, they moved the fables/fairytales/folktales out of the regular non-fiction shelving units and placed them in their own bookcase in a much more visible location in the library.

Hi all,

I'm wanting to reorganize my 398.2  section. I'm in a K-5 school and I'm thinking of getting rid of the 398.2 section in my library, but trying to figure out how to do that and what to do about the call numbers for these books.

I'm looking for ideas and/or pictures if you can share those as well.

Have any of you just put all folk tales into your fiction books? Created your own different call number? Put them in bins by types such as fairy tales, tall tales, fables, myths, legends?

Thanks for any help or ideas or links to blogs about someone else doing this!

Sarah
