Tip
Top Tech Training Libraries are constantly changing software, adding new software, upgrading hardware and software, and finding new applications
for existing software. Learning to use new software/hardware/application is a perpetual situation and therefore training in libraries is ongoing. There will always be turnover of library staff and new staff members need to learn to use the library’s system.
New staff members who formerly worked in a different library within the same automated network still need training in the specifics of the library in which they now work. Cataloger and consultant Dodie Gaudet covers techniques and theory of training and incorporates audience participation through
exercises and discussion. Topics include the structure of a training session, handouts, learning styles, methods of presentation, and how to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning. No computers are actually used. The entire workshop itself is intended
as a model for good teaching techniques. This workshop is recommended for: ·
Department supervisors who train staff to use new software, hardware or new applications, either in small groups or one-on-one.
·
Librarians and library staff members who train the public to use computers. In-person class
