There have been some great titles listed already.  Our second grade loves reading The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes (main character is a second grader).  It's one that the kids hold onto for years and remember as their favorite read aloud.

For Grade 2, I love Stuey Lewis  - many of my grade 2 teachers love it now!

Also, for 1 or 2, Grace Lin's Dumpling Days has been a huge hit and almost anything by Kate DiCamillo.

Hi! I’m looking to put together a list of some more current chapter book read-alouds for K-2 classrooms. Every teacher I polled says they read Charlotte’s  Web, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, My Father’s Dragon, etc. The most current literature was The Giants and the Joneses by Julia Donaldson (2004).

Can you suggest some other  amazing chapter books to read aloud to K-2 students that was written this century?

Thanks,
Karen
