Maybe something like Winger (Smith), Ready Player One (Cline), Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Alexie) or Into the Wild (Krakauer). I find that boys like non-fiction a lot because it activates prior
knowledge or feeds an interest.

Subject: [CASL-L] books for a high school boy
I have a sophomore who struggles to find books he enjoys. I’ve tried offering him a wide variety of titles and genres (including some of my usual reluctant reader go-to regular novels, graphic novels, hi-lows, etc.). He expressed frustration
recently and told me he just wants to like a book again like he did when he was little
L, which kind of broke my heart—he mentioned fond memories of reading Magic Treehouse and the Lunch Lady series. I’m going to order a few Wimpy Kids, which I personally love but don’t currently have in my collection.
Any ideas for other titles or series I could try with him?
Thanks!
