I agree, Michelle.

I adore libraries and have worked in libraries, from university to elementary school, for almost forty years.

Having said that, I believe owning books is also important.  There is research to support book ownership; there is also the look on a child's face when I give them a copy of a favorite book to have for their very own.  If anything, I see an increase in the number of books children check out when they have their own "library" of owned books.

I hope we can agree that these are complementary resources that serve to help children become lifelong readers.

Happy Holidays all!

I recently spoke with a Scholastic rep who is in the process of getting me information about these.  I guess because they are so new, he didn’t know much about them.

Although I think libraries are important, I also think it’s important and special for students to own books.  Many of our students do not own any books due to financial constraints.  Every time we have a book fair, or I give books away, the kids are so happy and excited to buy or receive a book of their own.

Good afternoon,

The Principal at my school is interested in purchasing a Book Vending Machine for our 7-8 middle school. It would be stocked with books and students would be able to earn tokens that can then be used to choose a book.

Does anyone have anything like this in place or see this in action?

Curious about logistics and student interest.

He is specifically looking at one by Global Vending Group but if you know of other options, I'd like to hear about those as well.

Thanks!
